Content Reuse and Conditionalization in Microsoft Word? Really!

March 2nd, 2010
Some of you who have been reading this blog for a while, especially my posts related to DITA, may think that I’m a DITA evangelist. The truth is I’m a content reuse evangelist. I just believe that DITA is one of the options that you definitely should consider when it comes to single sourcing.
However, DITA is a good, but not the only option. What if you are using Microsoft Word and the copy-paste method is too inefficient for content reuse and conditionalizing? Will you have to throw your tools away and begin a new life?
Then come on Thursday, March 4, to the Techshoret conference and see how we’ve built a sophisticated content reuse solution in MS Word for one of our clients. We’ll show you how we used SmartDocs, a product that integrates content reuse, conditionalizing, and content management capabilities to MS Word.
As a preview, with SmartDocs you can:
? Store reusable chunks of information (“snippets”) in a central repository
? Browse and search this repository from within MS Word
? Update a snippet once, and propagate the change to all or specific documents in which this snippet appears
? Version control for each snippet, and an automatic notifications when a snippet is updated
? Conditionalize content in MS Word
? Manage variables
? … and much more
At the Techshoret conference, you’ll see how SmartDocs was implemented to solve real company needs and help the documentation team save money and become much more efficient than they were with the copy-paste method.
See you on Thursday!
